WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash on Vince McMahon: Character vs. Reality

The Netflix docuseries Mr. McMahon has sparked discussions about the relationship between Vince McMahon, the man, and Mr. McMahon, the character he portrayed in WWE. WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash, who has worked closely with McMahon, shared his insights during an episode of his podcast Kliq This.

“I think they’re separate,” Nash stated when asked about the similarities between the two. He reflected on his personal experiences with McMahon, recalling their last conversation at Triple H’s 50th birthday celebration, which was attended by many family members and friends, including The Kliq and Dave Batista.

Nash mentioned that he still reaches out to McMahon for advice, humorously inferring that he once asked McMahon how to become a billionaire. He acknowledged the sentiments expressed by other wrestling legends in the docuseries, particularly those who described McMahon as a father figure. Nash shared that he understood the unique privilege that came with having a close relationship with McMahon.

“Undertaker makes the reference that he was a father figure. [John] Cena makes a reference that he was a father figure. Anybody that had that kind of relationship with him at that highest level… I really only had that for a year,” Nash noted. He recounted how he would sometimes show up unannounced at TV tapings and be allowed to skip the line to see McMahon.

“I’d go there sometimes, I’d want to see Vince, and there’d be this f***ing line of people… I’d get to cut the line, knock on the door,” Nash recalled. He emphasized that he never interrupted McMahon close to showtime but always managed to connect with him.

“He was my friend, he’s still my friend,” Nash concluded, reflecting on the lasting bond they share.
