AEW’s Bryan Danielson Looks Back On Why He Left WWE In 2021

Bryan Danielson’s tenure with WWE concluded in May 2021 after he opted not to renew his contract following WrestleMania 36. Just four months later, “The American Dragon” made his debut with AEW at All Out and has openly expressed his contentment with his decision to join AEW. In his time with the company, he has headlined five pay-per-views and secured the AEW World Championship.

Danielson recently looked back on his decision to leave WWE in 2021 during an interview with “Inside The Ropes.” He revealed that his decision involved more than just choosing between AEW and WWE. At the time, he considered several options: joining AEW, staying with WWE, retiring from wrestling, or opting for a non-exclusive contract that would allow him to participate in events like the G1 Climax without needing permission. Danielson clarified that his departure from WWE was not due to dissatisfaction with Vince McMahon’s leadership or WWE’s product. Instead, he sought opportunities and experiences that WWE could not offer him.

Despite his positive experiences in WWE, Danielson emphasized that, regardless of WWE’s leadership in 2021, he would have still chosen to sign with AEW.
